A psychiatrist specializes in mental health and treats emotional and behavioral problems with a combination of counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and medication. They can work in a doctor's office or a hospital. Psychiatrists diagnose and treat depression, schizophrenia, substance abuse, eating disorders, anxiety disorders, and sexual and gender identity issues. There are different branches of psychiatry.
